Autumn in Spanish: Fun Learning Activities for Children

Autumn is here and we love it! It’s a wonderful time of year filled with so many activities. It’s also a great time for children to learn all about autumn in Spanish.

Here I will share a few ideas, activities and resources to help your child learn, practice and love Spanish!

Vocabulary Words About Autumn in Spanish

I don’t believe in learning vocabulary by rote. That’s definitely not what this list is for! Printing it out and simply asking your child to learn the words by memorizing them over and over won’t work. However, they are a good resource for you (in case you need some help with vocabulary in Spanish).

Print out this list and have it handy. You can also try to use the words as you do parallel talk, self talk, use them to write stories, play scrabble, charades and more!

Play Games in Spanish

Playing games is one of the best ways for children to learn and this is especially true for Spanish! This is the reason we made Spanish Safari, after all.

Play games like Scrabble, Charades, and Memory to reinforce vocabulary.  Check out this post to learn more about the benefits of play and some fun freebies.

You can also download a Fall Memory Game.

Table Work and Worksheets

Though it may not sound like the most fun, putting pen to paper is a great way for children to learn! Coloring sheets while practicing vocabulary, word searches, and writing stories are a wonderful way to help children learn Spanish in a more formal way.

You can download a Fall Words Wordsearch and a Fall Coloring Sheet.

Read Books About Autumn in Spanish

Readings is hands down the best way to learn language. You can learn more about the importance of reading aloud here.

There are wonderful books in Spanish to help children learn more about autumn.  Here are some of my favorites!

Ciencia para pasar el otoño – Books del sur

El libro del otoño – Amazon

¡El otoño ya está aquí! – Amazon

Fall/Otoño – Oblong Books

Diversión con las hojas de otoño – Barns & Noble

Go For a Fall Walk

Going for a walk with your children is always a great source of fun and quality time spent together! It can also be a great time to use for language learning! Take your child for a walk and describe all the things that you see, feel, hear and smell while reinforcing the vocabulary you have been learning in Spanish.

Have Fun!

Learning a language is a life-long journey. Make the most of your child’s journey by making it fun and memorable! It can be a lot of pressure to raise children bilingually, but remember that your child doesn’t need you (or your language skills) to be perfect! Just do your best and enjoy this special season of the year and in the lives of your children. Happy learning!
