I’m going to say it again for the people in the back…Raising multilingual children is hard work! It takes a lot of commitment, support, tools, and many hours of investment. We all know the benefits are worth it, or we wouldn’t be putting so much of our time, treasure and talent into this journey.  Thankfully, however, with the advent of technology we have opportunities and tools for multilingualism like never before! And Spanish language learning online (or any other language) is now at the tip of your fingers!

25 Hours a Week of Target Language Exposure

If you really want your child to learn another language, some experts suggest they need to be exposed and practice the language for at least 25 hours a week! 25 ours a week may seem overwhelming. This is especially true if you think of yourself as the only source of language input.

You want your children speaking with adults and peers. But this also includes reading books, listening to audio, watching T.V., writing, doing art, and playing apps. Finally, a great source of input is through lessons with dedicated language teachers.

You can read through our blogs to find information, recommendations and ideas to include in your multilingual journey.

The Benefits of Lessons in the Target Language

Today, however, I want to talk to you specifically about Spanish language learning online for kids. Whether you speak the minority language at home, you’re following the one parent one language model, or however it is that you’re exposing your child to a second or third language, the more authentic input your child receives, the better!

Having an outside teacher interacting in the target language with your child is a huge plus. Language classes will provide your child with increased and high quality language input from someone other than yourself. This will support their academic and developmental achievements.

Language classes, however, become completely necessary when you do not speak the target language fluently (or at all!). As a parent who doesn’t speak the target language, you can still completely support and help your child learn another language (we even wrote about it here!), but you should definitely rely on some outside help! Enrolling your child or your whole family in language classes is a wonderful way to support and participate in your child’s journey.

Online Spanish Language Learning with Wanderlust Spanish School

This is why we want to shine the spotlight on our friends at Wanderlust Spanish School! A language school located in Buenos Aires Argentina, wanderlust offers in person and online language classes for kids and adults, with a bit of a twist. They not only focus on language education, but they impart a complete cultural experience. They cover language and grammar, along with the dialect, customs, food, and culture of a region of your choosing.

If you’ve read my post on the importance of being bicultural, then you know how important culture is to language learning. Adults and especially children will be more motivated to learn a language if they can connect with the people and places that speak the language. After all, the point of languages is to communicate with others!

You can sign your child or your family up to have Spanish language classes with a qualified and fun teacher. You can also connect with Wanderlust on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and check out their Youtube Channel!
